Overview
Mic Test (test-mic.app) is a free browser-based tool for testing microphones. This policy explains what happens to your data when you use it. In short: your microphone audio never leaves your device.
How your microphone audio is handled
When you click "Test My Mic," your browser requests permission to access your microphone via the standard getUserMedia API. The resulting audio stream is analyzed entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API (for the live level meter and device diagnostics). This audio is never transmitted to, uploaded to, or stored on any server operated by us or any third party.
If you use the optional recording feature, the short clip you record is held only in your browser's local memory for playback. It is never uploaded anywhere. The recording is discarded automatically when you close or reload the page, unless you take an explicit local action (such as your browser's own "save audio" feature) to save it yourself - in which case that file stays only on your device.
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use cookies, third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising scripts. We do not build a profile of your visits or usage.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider may log basic technical information (such as IP address, browser type, and request timestamps) for security and operational purposes. This information is not linked to your microphone usage, since that processing never touches our servers in the first place.
Children's privacy
This tool does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because no audio or personal data is collected or transmitted by the service at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
